Start Down The Path, Become a Registered Nurse…

Registered Nurses (RNs), practice in a broad range of work setting, treating patients, educating  patients and the public about various medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients’ family members. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation  RNs teach patients and their families how to manage their illnesses or injuries, explaining post-treatment home care needs; diet, nutrition, and exercise programs; and self-administration of medication and physical therapy.

 ADMISSION REQUIRMENTS

The School of Nursing will admit students to the Registered Nursing Program on a quarterly enrollment schedule.

 To qualify for the practical nurse program, you must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• All candidates must be able to demonstrate basic computer knowledge.
• Complete School Application (and demographic form included in application) and submit the $50.00 School Application Fee. (school application fee is non-refundable)
• Submit copy of Driver’s License or State ID, and Social Security No.
• Submit two (2) positive personal references and one (1) positive work reference (filled out by three (3) separate individuals. (Reference forms can be obtained from the admissions office).
• Submit copies of pre-requisite course transcripts and an official LPN transcript.
• Submit a money order payable to Acadia Career Institute in the amount of $75.00 for the nursing (entrance exam) and then schedule date to take the test.
• Take nursing entrance exam and obtain a successful score of 80% or greater.
• Meet with RN Program Director for interview. ( Interview does not guarantee admission to the RN Program)
• Receive a letter from the Admissions Committee regarding candidacy status. The decision to accept an applicant as a candidate for the RN Program is based on positive references, interview and pre-entrance nursing assessment test scores.
• Once an applicant has received a letter of acceptance as a candidate for the program, then they are to review and sign the ACI Admissions Acknowledgement Form and obtain a RN Program Application Packet.
• Obtain and submit an electronic fingerprint criminal background check. Both BCI and FBI are required for admittance to the RN program.
• Submit proof of immunizations/lab titers – MMR, Varicella, HepatitisB, Tetanus, & TB screening
• Submit physical and drug screening
• Review and sign the ACI Admissions Acknowledgement Form
• Submit proof of current CPR Certification for Health Care Providers that includes adult, child, and  infant. CPR certification must be maintained until the end of the program.
• Submit NSO student liability insurance (student must pay for this)
•  Submit a completed RN Program Application Packet, including 3 reference forms, and all required documents (See required documents section). References must be able to speak to academic ability and/or work ethic.
• Sign and receive a copy of the State of Ohio Disclosure Form. (To be given as a separate handout from the admissions office)
• Sign and receive a copy of the Enrollment Agreement.
• Attend a mandatory Nursing Information Session (Orientation to School of Nursing)
• Have a negative background check.  (A felony conviction may affect ability to attain license).

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES STUDENTS SEEKING ADMISSION MUST SUBMIT ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS SHOWING COMPLETION WITH A PASSING GRADE OF THE FOLLOWING PRE-REQUISITE COURSES:

1. ALGEBRA
2. ENGLISH
3. ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
4. PSYCHOLOGY

It is important that to understand that fulfilling the admission requirements DOES NOT guarantee the candidate acceptance into Acadia Career Institute’s Registered Nursing Program. Clinical rotations may be scheduled mornings, afternoons, nights, and on weekends. The RN program is totally residential in nature and no component is done through distance learning.

PROGRAM LENGTH

The Acadia Career Institute Registered Nursing Program is presented over a period of 52 weeks. This period is divided into four (4) 13-week quarters. The student will receive a total of 1400 clock hours for this program.

LICENSING

Upon successful completion of the Registered Nursing program, providing all requirements for graduation are met, the graduate will receive a diploma and will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) developed by The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The school will assist the graduate with job placement, but does not guarantee employment or a minimum starting salary.
